Hello from California! I have been M.I.A. for a little while with good reason...I was busy planning a move from Texas to California! :) My husband and I are both Texas natives (also have only lived in Texas) and have been thinking about where we would like to live next because we both knew we did not want to settle down in Texas. After our trip to California last October, we both fell in love with the state and we kept talking about how much we missed it once we were back. After a handful of months of debating and figuring out what our next move was, all signals pointed towards Los Angeles, California!
After deciding where we wanted to be, we both knew it would take a lot of planning and effort to move cross country (1,660 miles)! Once jobs were solidified, it was a matter of finding a place to live. We found an apartment very easily at first and it checked all our boxes, so we thought. It was in the location we wanted, within budget, and had amenities. Before we put in our application, we wanted to browse a few other spots just to make sure we weren't missing out on anything great. After a few places didn't "wow" us, we submitted our application to the apartment that was easy. An hour later, we are speaking with the apartment complex and the management team was so uneasy to work with, they somehow lost our online application, and wanted us to bend over backwards for them because they didn't seem to know what they were doing. At that point, we saw that as a sign and retracted our application and were back at square one. We spent an ENTIRE day while he was at work emailing back and forth different links of apartments and what we liked/didn't like about each one, Finally we stumbled upon this apartment that was too good to be true! It was in a prime location, within budget, the square footage that we wanted, great walkability, and a plus was that it was newly renovated! We submitted our application and the next evening we got a call that it was all ours! We both feel like everything happens for a reason and that everything worked out in our favor. We now passed by those apartments and I am GLAD that we did not end up there. God was doing us a favor!
After we found a place to live, it was a matter of days to pack up our life and get on the road! With numerous gas station stops and a stop to sleep, we made it in 34 hours! We left Houston on a Friday morning at 6:00am from Houston and made it to Beverly Hills at 4:00pm on Saturday. It was a LONG drive and I have told myself, "Never again will I make that drive again!" Plane ticket please! I tried to sleep the majority of the ride because I could not stand being in the car that long.
We have had such a great first week in our new home. It instantly felt like home here, and I never got nervous one bit about leaving. We do miss all of our family and friends, but on the bright side we can now get them all to come vacation over here and spend time with us! :)
Cant wait to share with you all the fun places we have adventured to this week! Stay tuned! :)
